'Tis the season for holiday cheer and...break-ups? Yup, that's on the menu too. Here are Modern Manners Guy's 3 rules for calling it quits during the holidays.
A friend recently told me that the holidays are the most depressing time of the year for her since she’s single. The way she sees it, while others make out as the ball drops, every single person on the planet is dining alone at Le Café Sucksville.
To be fair, she is not quite the most objective person on this matter since she was recently dumped by a guy she thought was “the one.”
Her story got me thinking: If you're going to bid your romantic partner farewell during the holidays, there has to be some sort of proper protocol.
So if your idea of a holiday gift is handing your significant other their walking papers, I hope you do so with tact and sensitivity. Here are my top 3 quick and dirty tips for breaking up during the holidays:
Tip #1: Timing Is Everything
Apparently the last week in November and first week in December is the ideal time for breaking up because it gives people enough time to grieve and then get right back on the horse and find someone new before the year is over. Despite this sounding like the premise of a cheesy romantic comedy, making sure you don’t lead someone on during the holidays is actually a kind gesture.
