Clean Your Silver
Real silver tableware like forks, spoons, and trays are beautiful -- but not when they're tarnished. Polishing silver is one of my least favorite household chores and one that I will put off as long as possible. I love using my pretty silver trays in my home décor but when they get brown and ugly from the tarnish, they’re an eyesore. Here’s the coolest, fastest way to clean silver:
Gather these items: 1 piece of aluminium foil, water (preferably filtered water), 1 tablespoon of baking soda, a saucepan large enough to hold your silver pieces, and tongs.
Add the water, baking soda, and aluminum foil to the saucepan. Bring to a boil. Place the silver pieces in the saucepan, a few at a time. It takes about 10-30 seconds for the tarnish to disappear. Remove silver pieces with tongs. Repeat the process with other tarnished pieces until everything is shiny and bright!
Clean and Freshen Your Mattress
Have you heard about all the dust mites and dead skin that’s accumulating in your mattress? It’s pretty gross.
When I learned about a creative way to clean my mattress with baking soda, I was totally on board.
Here’s how: Mix 1 cup of baking soda in a jar with 4-5 drops of essential lavender oil. Cover and shake vigorously. Next, remove all sheets, mattress pads, and any other bedding from your mattress. Using a sifter or a sieve, lightly dust the baking soda mixture all over the mattress. Let this sit for at least an hour or more, allowing it time to draw out dirt, moisture, and odor. Then, using the hose end of your vacuum and an upholstery attachment, thoroughly vacuum the mattress. Do this slowly so that you’re sucking up as much moisture and debris as possible. Your mattress should smell good and feel great after this treatment!
Make a Baking Soda Facial Mask
Baking soda is wonderful for your skin, too!
Here is a recipe for a fresh, rejuvenating facial mask treatment: Mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 1 tablespoon of fresh squeezed orange juice. Apply a thin layer of this all over your face with a clean make-up brush. Leave it on 15-20 minutes. Then, use your hands or a washcloth to gently scrub and exfoliate the mixture off. Rinse with cool water and feel refreshed!
