These 5 Steps Will Make Your Old Bed Seem New
Even if you can't afford a new mattress, you don't have to sleep on an uncomfortable bed. Whether you have company coming and need a fast fix, or you're looking for a way to spruce up your bed while keeping your eyes peeled for affordable holiday mattress sales, here are some tips on how to get that new bed feel without the cost.
Fix a Sagging Mattress
If your mattress is sagging in the middle, simply place a few folded sheets under the center to even it out. Mattresses should be flipped and/or rotated each month to prevent more sagging.
Whiten Yellowed Sheets
Are your sheets are starting to get that yellowish tinge? Make them white again by soaking them in a tub with warm water along with a cup of salt and a cup of baking soda. Rinse well and dry. To cut back on sweaty sheets, you can sprinkle a bit of baby powder between your fitted sheet and flat sheet before going to bed each night.
Fluff Up Your Pillows
If you can't afford a new bed, the next best thing is new pillows! And if you can't afford new pillows either, here's a trick to make your old pillows feel like new again. To make feather or foam pillows feel fluffy and fresh, place them in your clothes dryer with a fabric softener sheet and two clean tennis balls. Run the dryer on its lowest heat setting for 1tenminutes, then enjoy your like-new pillows.
Invest in an Egg Crate Topper
For under $100, an egg crate memory foam mattress topper can transform a hard, lumpy, mattress into a comfortable resting place. The contour of the foam will give your mattress a "pillow top" feel and adjust to the contours of your body.
Make a New Headboard
Even if your bed can't feel like new, it can look like new with the help of a brand-new headboard. And believe it or not, making your own headboard is easy, even if you're not a huge DIYer. A quick trip to the fabric and hardware stores, along with some basic tools you probably already have at home, are all you need.
