Aloe to the Rescue

Aloe is nature’s best moisturizer. If you have an aloe vera plant, you are in luck. Simply cut off a leaf and gently rub the gel inside the leaf onto those sore blisters. If you don’t have a plant, rummage through your beach bag for a sunburn-soothing aloe product and apply liberally to shingles sores.

Baking Soda Itch Soother

You know that box of baking soda in the pantry? It’s about to become your new best friend. With just the right amount of water, you can turn that baking soda into a cool paste that takes the itch and burn out of your shingles blisters. Is there anything that baking soda can’t do?

Apple Cider Vinegar for Shingles

Apple cider vinegar is one of the most useful home remedies around. It’s a natural antiseptic that can clean those shingles sores and speed up the scabbing process. Honey makes the perfect pairing with the vinegar, as it thickens the solution and takes some of the sting out of the vinegar. Here’s how to make a natural healing paste at home: Mix a half cup of warm honey with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. Apply it to sores (avoiding any that are open and/or oozing) with a soft cloth and let it sit for just a few minutes. It may sting a little as it disinfects. Rinse off with lukewarm water and repeat as often as you like.

Milk for Shingles Pain

Need something to soothe the itch? Look no further than your refrigerator. Grab a soft wash cloth or clean sponge and saturate it in cold skim milk. Squeeze it out until it’s soaked but not dripping and place it gently over any problem areas. The milk should create a thin, film of protein to help protect and ease sensitive skin.

Shingles Oatmeal Compress

It’s not just for breakfast anymore: Oatmeal has time-tested soothing power that helps with all kinds of skin irritations. So it’s no wonder that it will also help easy the itching caused by shingles. Boil a pot of oatmeal, let it cool, and apply it directly to the irritated skin. Throw a small towel over the area to contain the mess. Sit and enjoy your favorite half-hour sitcom while it works to relieve some of your pain. Rinse away. You can also try soaking in a lukewarm oatmeal bath. Let the oatmeal provide the moisture your sore skin craves.

Brew Some Tea

Chamomile is known for its magically calming aroma and healing effect. When shingles pain strikes, one of the best things you can do is put the kettle on. Make yourself a cup of chamomile tea and pour another cup to use topically. Soak a cotton ball in the cooled chamomile tea and dab it on your blisters. This natural remedy is perfect for itchy, inflamed skin. It is also likely to speed up the healing process so you can get back to feeling like yourself.
