You’ll have a luxurious oatmeal bath, and even a little sachet you can use as a washcloth to help exfoliate your skin.
DIY Honey Lavender Bath
Good for soothing dry skin and relieving stress, this honey-lavender bath is quick and easy to make. Process two tablespoons of dried lavender in a food processor until it becomes a powder, and transfer it to a small bowl. Whisk in one cup of milk, a quarter cup of honey, and an optional three drops lavender essential oil until well combined. Pour the mixture into a hot bath, relax, and enjoy!
How to Make Your Own Bath Bombs
You’ve seen those fancy bath bombs in bath and body stores, right? Did you know you can easily make your own? You do need one hard-to-find ingredient, citric acid powder, which you can locate online or at some supermarkets in the canning section. (It’s what reacts with the baking soda to make that fizzy sound—kind of like those baking soda and vinegar volcanoes you’d make as a child.) This is a great winter craft because the bath bombs set up best on low-humidity days. Mix together one cup of citric acid, one cup of baking soda, a half cup of cornstarch, and a half cup of grape-seed oil until you have a crumbly dough. Stir in 10 drops of the essential oil of your choice and an optional five drops of food coloring. Press the mixture firmly into the molds or ice cube trays, and then let dry for 24 hours. Remove carefully. Depending on the size of the bomb, you can use one or two per bath.
Peppermint Bath Soak
This peppermint bath is sure to stimulate your senses and get your skin tingling! Add a quarter cup powdered milk and a quarter cup cornstarch to one cup of warm water, and whisk until thoroughly combined. Stir in five drops of essential oil, and pour the entire mixture into your bathwater.
Filling a Bath with Rose Petals
What could be more romantic than a bath filled with sweet-smelling rose petals? This one would be a great idea for Valentine’s Day; try lining the tub with lighted votive candles and putting on some soft music. Run a hot bath, and mix in one cup of rose petals and a half cup of rosewater. Rosewater is a great anti-inflammatory, so even if you don’t use the petals, you can still get the same benefits. Plus, it smells fantastic.
