DIY: Painted Dresser for Your Patio
Domestic CEO’s DIY outdoor storage cabinet can be yours for less than $20. Here’s how!
Like most women I know, I go through crafty phases. Maybe it’s hormones, or maybe it’s a crafty gene that was repressed as a child, but it seems like every 3 months or so I get the urge to do a craft project. So about a month ago I found myself at the local Goodwill store looking for some inspiration.
While I was there, I saw this little dresser.
It had a horrible paint job, stickers stuck all over it, and a few nicks where it had been run into with a toy. It was also $6.99. I couldn’t think of anywhere I would put it, so even though it was a great deal, I put it out of my mind.
The next day, I was walking around Home Goods and saw a wall hanging that I thought we could use on our back patio. My husband and I have been working on sprucing up that area to make it feel more like another room of our house than simply an outdoor space. When I saw the wall hanging, I immediately realized how I wanted to use the dresser: as outdoor storage!
I ran to the Goodwill as fast as I could to make sure the little $7 treasure was still there, called a friend with a truck to help me get it home, and then spent an afternoon picking paint to match, sanding, and painting the little guy.
Now, I am happy to say that for less than $20 (I just got the sample jars of each color paint), our patio has “custom” storage for our grill tools, table settings, and gardening tools.
This project definitely satisfied my crafty bug!
