How to Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Your Family
Valentine’s Day isn’t always about couples and romance. Mighty Mommy has 5 ways to show your entire family the love on February 14th.
With the holidays behind us and a long winter ahead, Valentine’s Day really does come at the perfect time. Although Valentine’s Day is mostly focused on couples and romance—why not change it up and celebrate the day with your family?
Here are 5 ways to show your entire family the love on February 14th:
Tip #1: Get Everyone Excited with an Invitation
Invite your kids to a fun-filled Valentine’s Day extravaganza. Post a creative invitation in a place where they will see it—the kitchen, the bathroom mirror, next to the pillows in their bedrooms. Use festive scrapbook paper to make it sparkle and shine!

Decide what you’d like to do ahead of time. Maybe create a special menu or have a movie outing (either at home or at the theater). Whatever fun, Valentine’s Day treats you’re planning, make sure to showcase them in your invitation.
Tip #2: Decorate the House
The night before Valentine’s Day, after the kids go to bed, decorate the house a bit.
Try crafting a festive table for breakfast. Use colorful, red or pink placemats, and sprinkle some decorative confetti in the center. Create a centerpiece with hearts, Valentine’s candy, and other affordable goodies you can pick up.
Hang construction paper hearts from the ceiling with fishing line to add some extra pizazz and magic to your home.
Tip #3: Start the Day Off Right
Feed your family an extra special breakfast.
Heart-shaped breakfast items are easy to do and give your breakfast some Valentine’s Day flair. Use an extra-large cookie cutter to shape your French toast, pancakes, or waffles and eat your heart out!
Of course, red and pink sprinkles and M&M’s, strawberries, and whipped cream will really take your breakfast treats to the next level.
Play fun, upbeat music to help set the tone for your day of fun and love.
Tip #4: Hide and Seek
Surprise your kids and partner with a Valentine’s Day card tucked under their breakfast plate. Leave a couple of fun clues in the card for them to find their Valentine’s Day treat—a new book, a stuffed animal, movie tickets, or maybe an iTunes gift card.
This will give them something exciting and fun to look forward to until you all meet up at home again to share a cozy Valentine’s dinner.
Tip #5: Cook a Festive Valentine’s Dinner
Prepare a dinner full of their favorite comfort foods to keep Valentine’s Day rolling into Valentine’s Night. Make pizza, homemade mac and cheese, pot roast with mashed potatoes – or whatever dishes your family enjoys the most.
Serve everything on party platters and decorative plates that you can easily find for cheap at a party store. This helps kick it up a notch and lets your family know that you took the extra time to make their Valentine’s evening extra special.
If you’re having wine, serve the kids sparkling grape juice in little, plastic wine cups. Propose a toast at the beginning of the dinner to your amazing family and let them know how much they mean to you—after all, this day is all about love and affection!
