How to Clean Your Computer and Keyboard
Our computers are so much more than our workstations (or playstations!), so it’s no surprise that they’re often dirtier than a toilet seat. These five tricks make it easy to keep your computer clean!
Don’t Track Food on Your Trackpad
If you make a habit of eating while working on your laptop, easily protect your trackpad from sticky and greasy fingers. Cover it temporarily with a Post-it note! You’ll still be able to use the trackpad through the piece of paper, and it will stay much cleaner.

Clean Out Keyboard Crumbs
If your keyboard is littered with crumbs, dirt, and dust between the keys, here’s an easy cleaning trick: Use a short strip of tape to clean out the crud. Just press the tape between and underneath the keys so the dirt sticks, then toss it.
Keyboard Quick Clean
The easiest way to make sure you get all of those nasty germs out of your computer keyboard is with hydrogen peroxide. Simply dip a cotton swab or cotton ball in hydrogen peroxide and run it over and between the keys. This also works on your mouse!
DIY Compressed Air
Cleaned-out and dried plastic squeeze bottles from mustard, lemon juice, or siracha bottles make the perfect substitute for bottles of compressed air, which are used to clean out computer keyboards, electronics, and other tiny crevices. This works especially well with squeeze bottles with small spouts, such as lemon juice dispensers.
Quick Way to Disinfect Keyboards and Mice
Another way to quickly clean and disinfect computer keyboards and mice is to treat them like your hands—simply apply a small amount of hand sanitizer with a rag or tissue, and wait until it dries. Hand sanitizers contains alcohol, the main ingredient in most cleaners designed especially for computers keyboards and mice.
