What to do if you receive an invitation to a high-class soirée.
When dinner is served, wait for the hosts to begin before eating, unless you are told to start first.
If you are unsure about which fork or knife to use, remember this rule: Flatware is generally used from the outside in.
When eating, most food is cut with a knife (not a fork). Only cut one bite at a time – do not cut up all of your food before eating. Remember to bring the food up to your mouth; don't hunch over to eat. Chew with your mouth closed, and never speak with food in your mouth. If someone asks you a question while your mouth is full, indicate that you will need a moment, and chew and swallow before answering.
